In their new survey of Beverage consumption habits, The Nielsen Company* detail the preference of so-called Millennials, that generation of young people who came of age alongside the internet. A couple things stuck out to me in this study:
- “While the majority of millennials still prefer beer, they purchase relatively more wine and spirits than older generations did at a comparable age.”
- “Millennials are more likely to explore new and different alcohol beverage products and will be even more likely to buy a locally-made or produced product knowing it may help the local economy.
In other words, young people have a greater interest in a diverse array of beers, including local and craft-beer products. Guess that makes me firmly part of my generation…
* - Full Disclosure: my day job is at the company who published this analysis, although all opinions added on this blog represent my own ideas, which are not necessarily shared by my employer.
