Craft beer is growing in every market, including a new batch of Mexican brewers.  I recently discovered Cucapa Brewing Company through my local Mexican market.  Contrary to many Mexican lagers I’ve tried in the past, their cerveza embraces the flavors unique to their location in Mexicali.
First I tried their award-winning Honey Ale.  I poured the bottle into a tall glass, revealing a beautiful amber-orange beer with a foamy head.  The sweetness of the honey took an edge off of the biting taste of the hops.  In addition to its namesake slightly sweet taste, their Honey Ale has hints of citrus, and maybe even flan perking through the ale.
Overall this beer had a unique and refreshing taste, one that had my hop-leery roommate craving another glass.  So far I’ve only tried one of their beers, but I am definitely going to seek out more from this brewery in the future.
