Budweiser vs Microbrews: A Scientific Analysis (by ForaTv)

To celebrate American Craft Beer Week, I though it might make sense to revisit some of the basic distinctions between Macro and Micro brews.  ”At its core it’s the same,” says Dave McLean, an expert on the science behind the brewing process.

In the video he adds, “at the end of the day we’re all producing fermented barley products,” albeit it’s their remarkable mass-produced consistency that differentiates it from what can achieved through small-batch brewing.  While it’s scientifically impressive that macro-breweries can create such similar brews that it’s nearly impossible to distinguish, Dave considers this as misapplication to a process that’s valuable because each batch can be unique.

When celebrating Craft Beer Week, it’s key to keep in mind what makes craft beer special, and the history of beer nearly left behind by the mega-brewers of the world.  Craft Beer is worth celebrating because it offers more styles, and a greater variety between batches, that lives up to its artisanal namesake.
