Can Heineken promote sustainable beer distribution using this new bottle design? Eight years ago Heineken designed an innovative aluminum bottle that inspired other larger brewers (Anheuser-Busch most notably) to try new uses of the durable, more sustainable material in their products.
On top of improving the sustainability of their products, aluminum may also address one of the chief complaints I hear about Heineken beer; its notable tendency to skunk before it’s ordered.  Aluminum cans are known to protect beer from light, heat, and seal damage that can skunk a beer better than many other package.  Not to mentions that they’re lighter and therefore less expensive to distribute.  So when you think about sustainability, perhaps Heineken is onto something better for both the environment and beer lovers.
