I created a list of Breweries around the New York City area (and Long Island), which this beer blogger currently calls their home ! Fellow beer lovers can use the list to tour the best local, craft brewers around the metropolis. And if you see any of your favorites that are missing feel free to leave a comment so I can add it to the list.

Here’s two friends making their batch of homebrew together in this photo (bonus points for the geeky T-shirt). I asked Seth Barkley, one of the homebrewers in the photo, for a bit more of the story behind this photo and he said:
right now we have no “official” moniker. operating under the “dude bros” alias for the time being. started homebrewing in june, now into our 10th batch, an American Brown ale…second go-around. good stuff.
Cheers to these fellow Brew Noob’s for trying homebrew for themselves, and good luck with you beers to come!

Over Thanksgiving weekend I traveled to my hometown of St. Louis and had the opportunity to sample a number of local beers during my visit. So I decided to record another beer review on uStream, about one of my favorite local brewers O’Fallon who brew a tasty pumpkin ale I was drinking during the recording. In the video I also go on to discuss the beer culture around St. Louis, what makes for a good pumpkin beer, and more generally about pairing beer during Thanksgiving.
Quit being a beer elitist dude! It’d be like starting a rocknroll Tumblr then hating on people for liking something other than The Stones. If people are drinking beer, no matter what kind, then they are on the right track! I’d rather cheers someone that’s out and about having a good time on Bud then someone sitting in the corner ranting about dark beer or some shit. You love beer, we love beer, it’s all good brother!
Cheers to our friends at fuckyeahbeer:
FYB is not being elitist. Saying something is better than others is what I am doing. It is worth it to pay for good beer vs buying shit beer. Also I love meeting people at pubs or bars or whatever.
But once the Budweiser/Miller/Coors guy decided to “school me” on beer, he will probably get an ear full. I’ve had it happen many, MANY times.
Being a Noob makes it hard to be pretentious, because we’re still learning about what makes beer great. To each their own (favorite) beer of course, but we’ll especially celebrate the craft beer movement!
I created a Foursquare list of Breweries around the St. Louis metro area (my hometown), which other beer lovers can use on their next visit or tour of the midwest. St. Louis is home to a number of breweries and a burgeoning craft beer scene.
Notice your favorite brewery (or any omissions) from the list? Leave a comment here so I can add it to the list.

Follow BrewNoob on Foursquare to get tips about tasty beers, and some of our favorite places to drink them in different cities! A few of our followers on Twitter have already found this new way to connect with readers, so I wanted to share it with the blog as well. Cheers to sharing tasty beers in public places.
Two years ago today I started an account on Twitter called “BrewTest” to share 140-character beer reviews, in part because followers of my personal account seemed bored with my beer geekery. A little later I started this Tumblr blog to share longer reviews and thoughts about beer.
Today BrewNoob continues to share beer reviews on Twitter, but importantly also shares ideas about beer culture more broadly. And our family is expanded to include Cocktail culture through our sister site Toothpick Swords. Needless to say we’ll be hitting up the local pub tonight and raise a toast to our first 2 years, and for what’s to come in the years ahead.
I designed this beer label for my next homebrew (a dubbel) through a new website using their WYSIWYG editor. They also give the option to have your design printed out, either by ordering a set or DIY with your home printer.

I sent a request to Horrible Logos for a new design, and here’s what they came up with for The Brew Noob. From the look of it, the artist must have been inspired by an Irish beer of some sort. Should I consider making this BrewNoob’s new logo?
For the uninitiated, Horrible Logos designs hand-drawn logos for beer money. For at least $5, about the cost of a pint of beer (at least in NYC), the artist will draw a logo and post it on their site+link yours. Presumably, these designs would be at home doodled on a coaster in a bar near you…
