It’s the great summer debate: Bud vs. Miller?
They might not be the first beers you pick, but on a hot summer day at an outdoor party, you’re likely to pick up a cheap tall boy to sip to keep cool. Here’s one faceoff between the canned beer kings.
What’s your favorite cheap beer to drink in tallboys/cans during the summer?
Sixpoint solidifies their lead as the brewers to beat with the release of Apollo in 2012, just in time for summer beer season. I’ve had a few of these already, and even my friends who usually avoid craft beer are hooked…
Review via theorderofgoodbeer:
Picked up a 4-pack, expecting to be delighted by my first taste of Sixpoint’s American Pale Wheat Ale. Little did I know that those Brooklyn brewboys abandoned that style in favor of a Kristalweizen (which, after tasting, I can only assume is German for “brewed with unicorn tears & angel sweat”).
From the grassy, sweet, banana-bubblegum nose to the smooth, lemon-clove taste and the crisp dry finish, this was simply a great, great exbeerience.
Looking forward to summer beer…

#beer I wish I was sitting on a beach right now!
Cheers to Summer 2011 and the lagers and ales it brought. Here’s looking forward to Fall beers now that Oktoberfest is fully in swing…

There can be no doubt: this is the summer of Brooklyn Summer Ale in cans. At least in NYC it seems that way.

Looks like the perfect opportunity to bring cans on your train ride; maybe this is what Brooklyn Brewery had in mind when they introduced cans for their Summer Ale

12:40: somewhere between Hudson and Albany, I crack open my craft beer stash, and the ride suddenly gets a lot better.
Will 2011 be the summer when cans become popular across the craft beer scene?
It seems like more craft brewers than ever are releasing cans of their summer/seasonal beers this year. While bottles traditionally seem to be the preferred vessel of small batch brewing, one has to wonder if the trend will reach the tipping point in 2011? For example, local brewery Sixpoint (based in Brooklyn, NY) is releasing their “mini-kegs” just in time for memorial day weekend:

Let us know what you think about the canned beer trend with your own comments…
My favorite summer beer (this year) is @BrooklynBrewery’s Summer Ale. I started the season trying Schafly’s Helles-Style Summer Lager, which shares a similar malty finish. Other mainstays of mine this year include Blue Point’s Summer Ale, Harpoon’s Belgian, Flying Dog’s Double White, and more than my share of cheap lite-lagers at parties.
