Interesting review of a tasty beer (I’d give it high marks too).  Be sure to read their full post via beervader if you enjoy Star Wars references mixed in with beer reviews:

Schlafly Reserve Imperial Stout is one of my beers tonight. This beer is very strong and very good. This one I enjoyed with BEARable Beers and my wife out on the patio of a great place called Smooth Endings in MO. We all enjoyed the bourbon taste of this beer and in saying that if you are not big in the stronger alcohol this beer might not be for you. This beer I felt would be best enjoyed with a cigar or a juicy steak and you don’t want to rush it because if you do, it will bite you hard and in saying that here is the beer specs: …

At least to me, this beer sounds like a terrible idea in combination of their flavors, even if the individual tastes could be quite satisfying.  Has anyone else noticed a trend in strange beer combinations as of late?

Rogue’s Voodoo Doughnut Bacon Maple Ale. This beer is disgusting! Over powering Smokey flavor.

Here’s two friends making their batch of homebrew together in this photo (bonus points for the geeky T-shirt).  I asked Seth Barkley, one of the homebrewers in the photo, for a bit more of the story behind this photo and he said:

right now we have no “official” moniker. operating under the “dude bros” alias for the time being. started homebrewing in june, now into our 10th batch, an American Brown ale…second go-around. good stuff.

Cheers to these fellow Brew Noob’s for trying homebrew for themselves, and good luck with you beers to come!

Nighthawk Cinema and Brooklyn Brewery give you dinner and a movie

Why don’t more theaters serve craft beer at the movies?  I definitely see a connection between those who love independent film and those who enjoy local, independent breweries…

via brewyork:

We’ve been super-psyched about the prospect of seeing a movie at the new Nitehawk Cinema (136 Metropolitan Ave., at Berry St., Williamsburg), mainly because you have have a beer while you watch a movie. And not just any old beer, but really good beer; their tap list includes Sixpoint Sweet Action, Kelso of Brooklyn Kellerfest, Lagunitas Little Sumpin’ Wild, and several other craft brews. Oh, and their food? Well, that ain’t half-bad either, given they have a Michelin-starred chef at the helm in Saul Bolton.

So, great beer, great food, movies… what more could you ask for? Well, how about a beer pairing dinner in front of the silver screen?

Probably just as important as tasty beers is having good people to share them with, and personally I’m celebrating my Five-year anniversary with Lauren Reid. I think the first date I asked her on was to meet with friends at Growler’s Pub near St. Louis, MO, without realizing she was still underage, so instead we ended up seeing “Snakes on a Plane” in theaters. Like a good beer, our first date left me wanting more…
We don’t always share the same taste in beer (I prefer hoppier ales, and she likes belgian beers), but we have enjoyed sharing them together.  Cheers to Miss Reid on our anniversary!
